PROFESSIONAL ENERGY RATINGS
Veterans Energy Solutions, LLC (VES) is a State of Florida Certified Commercial, Government, and Residential Home/Building Energy Rater. We are accredited by RESNET and we are partnered with ENERGY STAR.
There is a national standard for the measurement and verification of the energy performance in homes/buildings that is already recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the mortgage industry – the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) national home energy rating standards (HERS).
Just as vehicles have a “MPG” (miles per gallon) estimate an energy rating is an accurate estimate of how much energy a house/building will consume per year (see example below). An energy rating uses the information gathered from the energy audit to calculate the rating. There are two types of ratings:
- PROJECTED RATINGS – Ratings performed prior to the construction of a home or prior to the installation of energy improvements to an existing home. This is usually done from construction documents.
- CONFIRMED RATINGS – Ratings completed using data gathered from an on-site inspection, which could include performance testing of the home.
A State Certified and RESNET Accredited Energy Rater is REQUIRED:
- To certify new construction projects for the ENERY STAR Home Program administered by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and US Department of Energy.
- To certify new construction projects for Green Homes administered by:
- Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) and
- US Green Building Council (USGBC) through Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED & LEED for Homes) Green Building Rating System™.
- To qualify builders and homeowners for Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEM) or Energy Improvement Mortgages (EIM) at better rates than conventional equity loans.
- To certify Federal Tax Credits and State/Utility Rebates.
VES participates in the Home Energy Performance program with ENERGY STAR, Florida Green Building Coalition and the US Green Building Council. Unlike an energy audit or a weatherization assessment, a home energy rating is a recognized tool in the mortgage industry.
VES can help you cost-effectively improve your home’s energy efficiency. We are specially-trained to evaluate your home using state-of-the-art equipment and recommend comprehensive improvements that will yield the best results.
We can also help you take advantage of Federal Tax Credits and State/Utility Rebates for energy efficient improvements.
